History
The Såstaholm Conference Centre is located in an area that is
rich in history.
Täby, and in particular the area around the lake Vallentunasjön,
has more rune stones than many other areas in Sweden. They were
almost always raised alongside roads so as to be visible to
passers-by, and to this day there are still plenty of rune stones
dating from the Viking period along the road leading up to
Såstaholm.
The Såsta estate in Täby was bought by the Höstsol foundation in
1918 for SEK 185,000. The aim of the Höstsol foundation was to
provide retired actors who had fallen into poverty with somewhere
to live in their old age. The estate included eighty acres of
forest and ninety acres of cultivated land, as well as the
magnificent and wonderfully situated main building.
Höstsol became a destination for artists of various kinds:
singers, dancers, one or two musicians and stage managers, but most
of all actors from the theatre, from revues and from film - all
with a long professional history behind them.
Over a period of sixty years the Höstsol Home came to be more
than just a sanctuary for tired artists in the autumn of their
lives - it also became a link between past and present theatrical
traditions, where pensioners could pass on their recollections and
skills to a younger generation.
The Höstsol Home was sold in 1981, and it is now known as the
Såstaholm Hotel & Conference Centre.
Today we welcome conference, business and weekend guests to
share in our historical heritage in this beautiful country house
environment with its views out over Vallentunasjön.
